A yes vote will enhance our future prospects

Meath East TD and Minister of Health Promotion and Food Safety Mary Wallace states “When we vote on the Lisbon Reform Treaty on June 12th, we will be making another vital choice regarding our relationship with Europe. We will be sending the world another clear signal about how we see ourselves and where we want to go.”

“Ratification of the Treaty will provide for a more effective Union. A Union that will be more accountable. A Union that will be better prepared to address the global challenges we all face. And for a Union that will allow Ireland to consolidate the gains we have made since we became members 35 years ago.

“I believe we should stick to the European course we mapped out for ourselves 35 years ago. Ireland has previously chosen to vote yes to the Single European Act, the Maastricht Treaty and the Treaties of Amsterdam and Nice all of which has benefited Europe and Ireland gained. The same choice faces us on June 12th. This is a major decision about our future and about the future of Europe. We need to make the right choice, a choice that will enhance our future prospects not damage them. That is why I am campaigning with total commitment for a Yes vote.”

“The Irish people and the huge majority of their political representatives, have always been favourable to the European project. We can see for ourselves the clear evidence of the immense national benefit we have derived from EU membership. It is a real priority for us in the years ahead to consolidate and build upon the great gains we have made as an EU Member state. The best way to achieve this is within a successful European Union. The changes provided for in the Reform Treaty will help to create the kind of Union that will serve Ireland’s future needs.”
