Large Crowd attend Tara Skryne Draft Landscape
Conservation Area Meeting - Wallace
Over 200 people attended an information meeting on the Tara Skryne Draft Landscape Conservation Area 2010 in Skryne Parish Hall on Tuesday last 8th June stated Mary Wallace TD.
The meeting arranged by and chaired by Deputy Wallace was also attended by a number of elected councillors in the area.
Deputy Wallace explained at the meeting that the plan is a national plan which commenced in March 09 and had two phases of public consultation. Deputy Wallace went on to explain that 29 Members of Meath County Council will be involved directly in the July decision on the plan.
“Deputy Wallace stated “The decision on the plan is a function reserved to the 29 Members of the Council and they will each have a vote on the plan when it comes before the Council for decision. It is therefore very important that each elected representative understand peoples concerns at this time and in particular how people would like them to vote at the Council meeting will take place on Monday 5th July 2010. “
Deputy Wallace went on to outline the advantages and disadvantages to the community from a tourism and culture prospective and the difficulties a planning applicant may experience when submitting an application, using the difficulties experienced by countless Meath Families living close to the world heritage site at Newgrange when the planning files are referred to the Department of the Environment, Heritage & Local Government.
Deputy Wallace has urged people to read the Draft document carefully, paying particular attention to pages 75/76 and to page 80 which is a schedule of de-exempted buildings i.e. buildings that are exempted at present and where their exempted status is to change.
An attendee at the meeting proposed that each person at the meeting should demand that members of Meath County Council should vote against the proposal and that the plan should be dropped. This motion was seconded. A vote was taken at the meeting and this motion was unanimously supported in the vote, a strong message from the area to each member of Meath County Council that people are vehemently opposed to the plan.
Deputy Wallace stated “I would like to thank everyone who attended and am delighted that people found the meeting worthwhile and as was evident from the comments and feedback at the meeting.
Deputy Wallace continued “This is an issue that perhaps many people were not fully aware of and my aim in having the meeting was to inform people about this proposed plan and the implications for the area and the families in the area.”
“A reminder that all submissions must be clearly marked "Submission to Draft Landscape Conservation Area for Tara Skryne" and should be addressed to Michael Griffin, Senior Executive Officer, planning department, Meath County Council before 3.30pm on Wednesday next 16th June 2010.”
