After thirty years in public office as a councillor, a senator, a minister of state for three portfolios and TD for Meath East, Mary Wallace decided not to contest the 2011 general election.  Mary Wallace was Minister of State in Justice from 1997 to 2002, Agriculture from 2006 to 2008 and Health from 2008 to 2009 and a member of the Irish Parliament from 1989 to 2011.

At work in the Community for the schools, roads and trains that became the success story of Mary’s final term in office.

Many thanks to all who helped to make this happen.

Press Release from
Mary Wallace TD &
Cllr Noel Leonard
11th February 2010

New pedestrian/cycle footbridge for
Dunboyne Railway Bridge

Mary Wallace TD has been advised that the construction of a pedestrian/cycle footbridge adjacent to and parallel to the northern face of the Dunboyne Railway Bridge will be complete by the end of April/early May 2010.

The railway order approved by An Bord Pleanala for the reinstatement of the Clonsilla to Dunboyne Pace Rail Line made provision for the installation of a pedestrian/cycle bridge.

Once this piece of infrastructure is in place there will be no need for pedestrians or cyclists to use the existing bridge on the regional road Clonee to Dunboyne.

Dunboyne Cllr Noel Leonard very much welcomed the news saying  “Over many years there have been generations of children who lived on the eastern side of the railway bridge and whom had to be driven the short distance across the bridge to attend our schools in Dunboyne. Indeed the no footpath issue effected many people who lived on that side of the bridge. I am delighted to see that this safety issue for the people of Dunboyne will finally be resolved.”
