After thirty years in public office as a councillor, a senator, a minister of state for three portfolios and TD for Meath East, Mary Wallace decided not to contest the 2011 general election.  Mary Wallace was Minister of State in Justice from 1997 to 2002, Agriculture from 2006 to 2008 and Health from 2008 to 2009 and a member of the Irish Parliament from 1989 to 2011.

At work in the Community for the schools, roads and trains that became the success story of Mary’s final term in office.

Wallace encourages Community Groups to apply to the amenity grant scheme

“Community Groups and Residents Associations are encouraged to avail of the 2010 lawnmower/strimmer and Amenity grant scheme launched this week by Meath County Council.” says Mary Wallace TD.

Deputy Wallace continued “Local community Groups and residents associations have done fantastic work improving the landscape of our local area. With the launch of the 2010 Pride of Place initiatives interested groups should avail of these grants to assist in the improvement of our community”.

Grants are available for the following works:
 
- Purchase of New Lawnmowers/Strimmers
- Provision and Maintenance of Green Areas
- Provision of Flower beds, shrubs, trees etc.
- Improvement of Derelict Sites
- Improvement of Green Areas, Walls, Fencing etc on approach roads
- Improvements to areas of historical nature
- Improvements to public walkways/canal banks
 
Applications forms for the above Grants are available on the Council’s website at www.meath.ie or from the Environment Section, Meath County Council, County Hall, Railway Street, Navan, Co Meath.
