After thirty years in public office as a councillor, a senator, a minister of state for three portfolios and TD for Meath East, Mary Wallace decided not to contest the 2011 general election.  Mary Wallace was Minister of State in Justice from 1997 to 2002, Agriculture from 2006 to 2008 and Health from 2008 to 2009 and a member of the Irish Parliament from 1989 to 2011.

At work in the Community for the schools, roads and trains that became the success story of Mary’s final term in office.

Great News for Ashbourne

Sports Hall

The Ashbourne Recreational Group Ltd. this week received the fantastic news that the very important additional funding required to go ahead immediately to build a state of the art Sports Hall for Ashbourne Community School has been granted by the Department of Education says Meath East Election Candidate Cllr Nick Killian.

Cllr Killian stated “This is great news for the School and for the Community of Ashbourne. The vision of a Sports Hall for Ashbourne Community School was first brought about in 2005. Many meetings with the Department of Education in Tullamore, emails and phone calls have been made over the past 6 years as Deputy Mary Wallace and I have been in constant contact with the Department regarding this very important project for the school and for the community of Ashbourne.”

Cllr Killian was also instrumental in the Ashbourne Community Recreational Group receiving lottery funding which was granted in 2006 and in an application to Meath County Council who also made a funding commitment that same year. In 2007 the Department of Education proposed a contribution additional and this week’s news that the Department of Education will provide the funding to allow the project to move to the tender and construction stage is the final piece of this very important project, which will be ready for occupation by October this year.

Cllr Killian this week thanked all who helped him to bring about this great and momentus day for the school and for the town of Ashbourne especially Principal Aine O’Sullivan, the teaching staff, Ashbourne Community School Parents Association, local sporting groups and the Committee of the Recreational Group He also thanked the officials in the Department of Education, Meath County Council and the Department of Tourism, Culture & Sport all of whom accepted Cllr Killians idea and worked with him to see it through.
