Leonard announces the imminent commencement of work on Dunboyne railway line

Dunboyne Cllr Noel Leonard is delighted to announce that work is about to commence on the 7.5KM Clonsilla to Dunboyne railway line as scheduled. This is the first phase of the multi-million euro Navan – Dublin railway line, an objective of Meath County Council’s Development plan and is included in the Government’s Transport 21 investment programme.

Cllr Leonard stated "This will be a hugely significant moment for Dunboyne people and for the surrounding area who experience the challenges and pressures of getting to and from work/college every day and who will be able to use the park and ride facility at Pace (close to the junction of Fairyhouse Road/Trim/Dunshaughlin).

Cllr Leonard continued "It means a lot to me particularly as I have been lobbying for the re-opening of this line since 1997 with the then Minister of transport Minister O’Rourke. I would like to thank Mary O’Rourke for having the confidence in this project. I have remained focused to this project over the years and have worked hard to ensure that we have a real alternative to the road gridlock which will no doubt improve the quality of life of Meath Commuters".

I would also like to thank Minister Mary Wallace who has lobbied with me extensively to ensure that Meath residents have access to a modern public transport infrastructure".

This is the first step in the provision of rail infrastructure throughout Meath and will be vital to all communities in the County but particularly in areas such as Killmessian where there is currently no public transport system".

My new focus is to ensure that we attract local commercial activities that can be supported by this modern public transport infrastructure."
