Meath County Council asked to explain why issue of safety at Kilmoon Cross is going around in circles
There is an urgent need to improve the signage and lighting at Kilmoon Cross in order to improve overall safety in the area.
In February 2007 Bus Eireann in response to representations from Minister Mary Wallace TD advised that they would welcome any initiative undertaken by Meath County Council to improve the area around the bus stop at Kilmoon Cross.
In March 2007 the National Road Authority advised Minister Wallace that proposals in relation to improvement works on national roads, including the provision of safety remedial measures, are matters which are normally developed in the first instance by the relevant road authority, in this case Meath County Council.
In April 2007 the Department of Transport responded to Minister Wallace that they discussed the situation with Bus Eireann and that Bus Eireann intends to consult with Meath County Council to either jointly or separately bring forward proposals to improve the traffic environment of the area around the junction and the DTO will facilitate in as far as it can the funding of projects brought forward in this manner, either from Traffic Management Grant or from other sources of funding
In August 2007 the NRA advised Minister Wallace that a Senior Executive Engineer, Meath County Council is dealing with this matter and in order to be of assistance the NRA forwarded her correspondence to him for his attention and direct reply.
Minister Wallace will continue to monitor developments on this extremely important safety issue for residents in Kilmoon Cross area and has again asked Meath County Council to expedite their application to both the NRA and DTO.
