Wallace welcomes funding of over €47 million for Meath Roads in 2009
2nd February 2009
Meath East TD Mary Wallace has welcomed the announcement and details of the Government’s €1.44 billion investment in the National Roads Programme for 2009 and specifically the €47,065,966 million allocation for Meath. The overall allocation represents an average investment of €120 million per month in Irelands National Roads. The Meath allocation represents an approx 20% increase on the 2008 allocation allowing for the substantial funding for the M3 Motorway.
Speaking about the €47 million investment for Meath roads, Minister Wallace, said: “This investment shows commitment to progressing projects that will enhance the quality of life for people in Meath, connect our communities and underpin our prosperity. The funding allocated for 2009 will allow for more new and better roads that will help road-users go about their daily lives in a more efficient way”
Minister Wallace has specifically welcomed funding dedicated to the construction of the new M3 Motorway from Clonee to North of Kells and the ongoing safety improvements on the N2 particularly at Kilmoon cross.
Minister Wallace stated “I am particularly pleased with the €100,000 funding allocated to road safety measures at Kilmoon Cross. I have previously called on Bus Eireann, the Dublin Transport Office, the National Roads Authority and Meath County Council for proposals to improve the traffic environment of the Kilmoon Cross area around the junction and to improve the facilities at the bus stop at this location. I will continue to monitor developments on this extremely important issue for residents in the Kilmoon Cross area.”
Cllr Jim Mangan has also welcomed the €179,000 funding specifically dedicated to the ongoing safety measures at Kilmoon Cross and Garlow Cross stating “Road safety at these two cross roads is a major concern to everyone in the area. At Kilmoon Cross many commuters park their cars in the area of this very busy and dangerous junction where the main Drogheda/Duleek Road meets the N2 in order to take the bus to Dublin. I have called on Meath County Council for some time now to improve signage and lighting in both areas in order to improve overall safety in these areas. I am delighted that funding has now been made available.” He concluded
