Wallace confirms Dunboyne Train Line to open in September 2010

“The opening of the Dunboyne Train Line will be in September 2010” says a delighted Mary Wallace TD following confirmation from Minister of Transport Noel Dempsey TD to Deputy Wallace.

Just three months behind schedule the 7.5KM Clonsilla to Dunboyne railway line is the first phase of the multi-million euro Navan – Dublin railway line, an objective of Meath County Council’s Development plan and is included in the Government’s Transport 21 investment programme. A new park and ride facility at Pace, close to the M3, will cater for 1200 cars.

Deputy Wallace stated “I have remained focused to this project over the years to ensure that we have a real alternative for Meath commuters. I am looking forward to seeing the first passenger train in Dunboyne in September. I have no doubt that this railway line will improve the quality of life of people in Dunboyne and surrounding area’s.”

Dunboyne Cllr Noel Leonard is also looking forward to the opening of the Dunboyne Train Line saying “The opening of the Dunboyne Train Line will be hugely significant for Dunboyne people particularly as some people believed it would never happen since the downturn in the economy. I am delighted also for the surrounding area who experience the challenges and pressures of getting to and from work/college every day and who will be able to use the park and ride facility at Pace (close to the junction of Fairyhouse Road/Trim/Dunshaughlin).

Cllr Leonard continued “It means a lot to me particularly as I have been lobbying for the re-opening of this line since 1997 with the then Minister of transport Minister O’Rourke. I would like to thank Mary O’Rourke for having the confidence in this project.”

“I would also like to thank Deputy Mary Wallace who has lobbied with me extensively to ensure that Meath residents have access to a modern public transport infrastructure”.
