Minister confirms 2009 timeline for Dunboyne train

Mary Wallace T.D. (Minister of State) has obtained written clarification from the Department of Transport with regard to the timelines associated with the Clonsilla - Pace - Navan Rail link.

A letter from the Minister for Transport Martin Cullen, reveals that 2009 is still the target date for the completion of the first phase of the re-opening of the Clonsilla to Navan line. The project is proposed under Transport 21 in two phases with phase one being Clonsilla to Pace by 2009.

Councillor Noel Leonard who represents Dunboyne said," I am absolutely delighted that Minister Wallace has brought clarity to this very important issue. The train to Dunboyne in 2009 and the Park and Ride facility at Pace is wonderful news for everybody in this area.
"The proposed line from Clonsilla to the M3 interchange at Pace is 7.5 kilometres in length. Three new stations are proposed at Hansfield, Dunboyne and a major Park and Ride facility at the Pace M3 interchange (close to Fairyhouse junction). Iarnrod Eireann proposes a service frequency of every 15 minutes at peak and every 30 minutes off-peak.  The new station in Docklands ensures there will be capacity in the city centre to cater for demand from the newly reopened line.

Work has commenced on feasibility work in relation to the Phase 2, Pace - Navan section. A scoping study will take place to survey the alignment and establish what engineering and technical issues are likely to be encountered in the subsequent work to construct and open the line.
