Minister Mary Wallace welcomes the announcement of the 2008 Sports Capital Programme
Minister Mary Wallace today reminded all interested sporting groups to apply for funding under the recently launched 2008 Sports Capital Programme.
The national lottery-funded Sports Capital Programme allocates funding to projects that are directly related to the provision of sporting or physical recreation facilities. This means that the project must involve improving or building an asset or the purchase of non-personal sports equipment that will be used for at least 5 years. Since 1998 over 6,700 projects have benefited from this programme with allocations totalling €675 million.

Local sporting groups to benefit in the past from funding under the Sports Capital Programme include Ashbourne Rugby Football Club, Ashbourne Donaghmore GAA Club, Blackhall Gaels Football and Hurling Club, Drumree GAA Club, Dunboyne Athletic Club, Dunboyne Community Centre, Dunboyne Tennis Club, Dunboyne Ladies GAA, Dunsany GFC, Dunshaughlin Community Centre, Kilbride Gaelic Football Club, Ratoath GAA Club, Ratoath Harps Football club, St Peters GAA Dunboyne, St Andrew’s Athletic Club, Skryne Gaelic Football Club and Walterstown GFC.
Applications for funding are invited from all local sports organisations, voluntary and community groups including sports clubs, national governing bodies of sport and third level education institutions, VECs and local authorities for the development of sports facilities and/ or the purchase of sports equipment.

The deadline for paper based applications is 5pm on Friday 29th February while applicants using the Department’s online system have until 5pm on Friday 7th March.
