Minister Wallace calls on all Meath Motorists to make 2008 the year for Road Safety
Following the recent launch of the Meath County Council Road Safety Plan Minister Mary Wallace calls on all Meath Motorists to make 2008 the year for road safety.
Minister Wallace said “ County Meath’s population has grown enormously in the past 10 years and the number of people using our roads continues to increase. I am delighted that our local officials have taken seriously the issue of road safety and launched our own Road Safety Plan. The appointment of Meath County Council of a full time Road Safety Officer is most welcome and we wish every success in his role to former Garda Chief Superintendent Michael Finnegan”
The Minister added “Our children are now back at school and current weather conditions should particularly highlight the need to slow down on our roads. Speeding and dangerous driving continue to be two of the biggest contributory factors to road fatalities and injuries. I would remind people to leave in plenty of time to get to their destination. ”
She concluded “Our local authority has shown their commitment to improving road safety but the public also have a part to play. We all need to take responsibility for our own individual driving habits. We all need to slow down, not to drink and drive and wear our seat belts at all times.
