Are you a new voter in Meath East?
The election register in Meath East is constantly changing with new names added as people come to live in the area and young people reach voting age (18 years). If you need to register as a new voter or to change your vote to a new address you need to complete a voters registration form. Forms are available from your local Garda Station, post office and library. If you recently turned 18 you are entitled to vote. However you must register.
Register of Electors
The Register of Electors is prepared by Meath County Council each year. It is a list of people in the county, over the age of 18, who are eligible to vote. You can see if you are already on the electoral register by logging onto http://www.meath.ie/LocalAuthorities/ElectionsElectoralRegister/

Who can apply to be registered
You must be at least 18 years of age on the day the Register comes into force (i.e., 15th February of each year). You also must be resident at the address at which you wish to be registered on 1st September.
Citizenship:
Everyone is entitled to apply for entry onto the Voting Register, however, your citizenship determines which elections you may vote in.
- Irish citizens may vote at all elections/referenda
- British citizens may vote at Dáil, European and Local elections only.
- Other EU citizens may vote at European and Local elections only.
- Non-EU citizens may vote at Local elections only.
Supplement to the Register:
If you are not on the current Register of Electors and an election/referendum is called, you may apply to be put on the Supplement to the Register of Electors. The closing date for the Supplement is 14 days (excluding Sundays and Bank Holidays) prior to the date of election/referendum. If a person wishes to have their name added to the Supplement they must complete the necessary form and return it to Meath County Council before the closing date.
