Payout of balance of Single Payment Scheme to Farmers – Wallace

30 th November 2009

Meath East TD Mary Wallace is pleased that the Department of Agriculture will commence payment of the 30 per cent balancing payments under the Single Payment Scheme to farmers tomorrow Tuesday 1 st December.

Previously in October advance payments of 70 per cent of the Single Payment Scheme worth almost EUR37 million commenced to approximately 3,500 Meath Farmers.

Deputy Wallace stated “Much thanks goes to Minister Brendan Smith for his efforts in Brussels in October where he was successful in ensuring these payments were made 6 weeks earlier than provided for under the rules of the Single Payment Scheme and the level of advance payment set at an unprecedented 70 per cent”.

“This will be very welcome news for farmers in Meath. Many Meath farmers and farmers around the country are experiencing a difficult time currently and the payment of the balance of this money will be of some relief to them”. Concluded Deputy Wallace
