Wallace welcomes  -  €1Million special fund for Skryne/Rathfeigh and Walterstown Roads

27th February 2009

Meath East TD Mary Wallace warmly welcomes Meath County Council’s proposal to spend in the region of €1M on roads in the Skyrne/Rathfeigh and Walterstown area this year. This announcement follows Minister Wallace’s ongoing representations over the past few years and is most welcome.

Minister Wallace had previously expressed concern to Meath County Council that roads particularly around Tara, Skyrne, Walterstown, Rathfeigh and Kentstown are in very poor condition. This concern came from the obvious fact that roads in this part of the County were worse than any other in the wider area. This difference seemed to stem from the fact that motorists were leaving the N3 on the Dublin side and using the roads east and west of the N3 as un-official bypasses of Dunshaughlin.

Minister Wallace stated “I am delighted Meath County Council have taken into consideration the huge increases in traffic which leave Navan/Dunshaughlin and use these roads as short cuts and unofficial bypasses of Dunshaughlin. This special fund of €1M is most welcome as there is no doubt that the roads in these areas are amongst the worst in the county”.

Local councillor Jim Mangan has also welcomed the news as he has worked very hard with Minister Wallace over the past few years to bring the seriousness of the situation to Meath County Council.

Minister Wallace has been advised that the work is anticipated to be carried out during the second and third quarter of this year.
