Wallace encourages submissions on the School Transport Review
Meath East TD Mary Wallace encourages any interested organisations or individual’s to make a submission to the steering committee that has been established by the Department of Education and Science to oversee a review of the school transport scheme including catchment boundaries.
The Steering committee comprises of personnel from the Department of Education and Science, other government departments and two independent experts who will oversee the review to be completed by the end of 2009.
The review will look at the original objectives of the scheme, whether these objectives remain valid today, the extent to which the objectives are being achieved, and whether there are possibilities for economies or efficiencies that would improve the value for money of the scheme. In this context the review will also look at fundamental issues such as eligibility criteria and catchment boundaries, with a view to achieving efficiencies and value for money in the Scheme.
Interested organisations or individuals are invited to make submissions to the Committee on issues covered by its terms of reference using the guidance document supplied on the Department of Education and Science Website www.education.ie to assist the process.
