Wallace - 24 seater school bus confirmed for Curragha Students

Meath East TD and Minister of State Mary Wallace is delighted with the news that a 24 seater school bus has been sanctioned to service the Curragha area North of Ratoath College.

This fantastic news follows ongoing representations by Minister Wallace to the Department of Education and Science to widen the Ratoath Catchment area which was approved in August this year. This would allow for a number of students from Curragha who were living outside the original school catchment area and for the six eligible students who needed a minimum of seven to avail of a school bus.

Following the approval to widen the catchment boundary area Bus Eireann tendered for both a minibus which would cater for 14 students and a medium sized bus which would cater for 24 students. Minister Wallace wrote to Bus Eireann highlighting the need for a medium sized bus as this would mean 23 students (13 eligible and 10 catchment boundary) would benefit from the bus.

Minister Wallace understands that Bus Eireann will notify the families concerned in the coming days and the date of service commencement will be announced shortly.

Minister Wallace stated “This is fantastic news for 23 students and their families from Curragha. I would like to express again my thanks to Peter Kierans and to the staff of Meath VEC, Bus Eireann and Ratoath College for working with me on this important development”.
