Wallace welcomes € 1,675,000 Rural water Programme 2007 grant allocations

Meath East TD, and Minister of State, Mary Wallace welcomes investment of € 1,675,000 in the Co. Meath Rural Water Programme 2007.

Minister Wallace said that the capital allocation strongly supports the Government's strategy for upgrading rural water infrastructure to provide better quality services to rural communities throughout the county.

The main breakdown of the expenditure under the 2007 Programme is as follows:

    * € 85,000 for new water treatment plants for group schemes with private sources.
    * € 100,000 for group water schemes opting to be taken over by Meath County Council
    * € 740,000 to grant aid new group schemes and extensions to existing schemes to cater for growing rural communities.
    * € 750,000 for small public water and sewerage schemes to help with localised water supply or sewerage issues that require local authority infrastructure to be upgraded and extended.

This funding is very welcome and will enable Meath County Council to take action on problem schemes, said Minister Wallace.
