Wallace welcomes funding for Meath Water supply improvements
Minster of State and Meath East TD Mary Wallace welcomes the news that funding of €220,500 has been allocated to Meath County Council to resolve issues affecting drinking water quality.
The €220,500 has been allocated to Meath County Council from a special contingency fund introduced by Dept of the Environment to finance improvement works, such as upgraded disinfection facilities, chlorine and turbidity monitors and dial-out alarms to warn of treatment plant malfunctions.
The setting up of this contingency fund followed the publication from the Environmental Protection Agency which highlighted a list of public water supplies where detailed profiling was required to guarantee safety and security of supply to consumers.
The grants will finance the remedial measures required to resolve security and safety of supply issues. The works will all be completed by the end of 2009.
Minister Wallace stated “ This funding will allow Meath County Council to implement the necessary improvements to ensure that drinking water supplied to the public is clean and wholesome”.
