Wallace welcomes Health Promotion role
Meath East TD and Mary Wallace and newly appointment Minister For Health Promotion at the Department of Health welcomes her new role in Government.
Speaking to the Meath Echo Minister Wallace said “I am delighted to have the opportunity of working in the Department of Health, a Department I have always wanted to work in. I want to thank the Taoiseach, Brian Cowen for this opportunity and for the confidence he has placed in me with this important portfolio.”
Minister Wallace continued “There is a varied portfolio in Health Promotion and Food Safety including healthy lifestyle. With regard to exercise there is particular emphasis on children and the issue of obesity in children. Also, emphasis on alcohol related issues in particular the impact on teenagers and the important of delaying the age when people start to drink alcohol. It is a wide ranging portfolio that includes food safety in hotels, restaurant, supermarkets and food processing. These areas of Health Promotion and Food Safety are of particular interest to me and I am delighted to have this opportunity to work in these important areas that impact so much on young people, on families and on the community as a whole”.
