Wallace welcomes Meath rural water funding
Minister Wallace has welcomed funding allocated to Meath County Council under the 2008 rural water programme of €2,760,500.
Minister Wallace has been informed by Meath County Council of how this money is going to be spent. There will be an allocation of:
* €1,440,000 to complete the Kilcloon & Kiltale Sewerage Schemes in 2008.
* €300,000 to provide Upgrade works to the Meath Hill Group Water Scheme. Proposals submitted are currently being examined
* €220,500 to commence works on a number of new Group Water & Sewerage Schemes. A number of Schemes are currently at the advanced design state however, the Mooretown/Realtogue, Navan Phase 1 Group Water Scheme has commenced & is expected to be completed in mid 2008
* €800,000 has been allocated towards Small Water & Sewerage Schemes
It is understood that the Council will prioritise works that complement existing rural water measures such as the upgrading of small public schemes which in turn supply group schemes.
The Council has also advised Minister Wallace that the overall priority will continue to focus on addressing water quality problems & bring Schemes into compliance with the Water Quality Regulations.
It is also understood that the Council is currently preparing a programme of works for Small Water & Sewerage Schemes for completion in 2008
Speaking about the Meath County funding Minister Wallace stated that “this funding strongly supports the Government’s strategy for upgrading rural water infrastructure in order to provide better quality services for rural communities throughout the county”.
