Wallace – Reminds people of Meath to check draft register
Meath East TD and Minister of State Mary Wallace urges the people of Meath to check the draft register of electors 2009/2010 recently prepared by Meath County Council. It is a list of people in the county, over the age of 18, who are eligible to vote. The Draft Register is printed and available for checking from 1st November. Copies of the Register are sent to every post office, garda station , courthouse, library and council office across the County. The public are invited to check that they are properly registered. Persons can apply to make changes before the final register is printed. The last day for receipt of such claims is 25th November.
The register is constantly changing and it is especially important to check that you are registered if you have changed address recently or if you will reach your 18th birthday by 15th February. If you need to register as a new voter or to change your vote to a new address you need to complete a voters registration form. Forms are available from your local Garda Station, post office and library. You can also download register of elector application forms from www.meath.ie.
The Minister of State also pointed out that if you have a physical disability or physical illness and you wish to vote from home you should apply to go on the Postal Voters List. Or if you are living in a hospital or Nursing home or similar dwellings you can apply to go on the Special Voters List.
You can also vote by post if you are likely to be unable to vote in person at your polling station because of the circumstances of your occupation, service or employment. Applications must be received in Corporate Services, Meath County Council, County Hall, Navan on or before 25th November. The Live Register is then published on 1st February. The Register comes into force on 15th February.
